Opening Day Ready.

In 2023, WellSpan Park faced an unexpected crisis when an act of vandalism damaged nearly 30% of the York Revolution’s natural-grass playing surface. A harmful substance was poured onto the field, killing large sections of turf and leaving the surface unsafe and unplayable during the season. With games already underway and no margin for error, the Revolution turned to Hummer Turfgrass Systems to execute an emergency restoration that would bring the field back to professional standards.

Hummer mobilized quickly, removing the damaged turf and contaminated soil, rebuilding affected areas of the root zone, and installing fresh Game Day–quality sod across the impacted sections of the field. This rapid reconstruction restored footing, corrected surface integrity, and returned the infield and outfield to a uniform, professional-grade appearance. Once the new sod was installed, Hummer performed targeted conditioning and surface finishing to ensure the field played consistently and safely throughout the season.

Because timing was critical, all work was coordinated around team operations, stadium access, and event logistics to avoid delays. Hummer’s fast response, technical precision, and baseball-field expertise allowed WellSpan Park to fully recover from the incident and open the season on a safe, consistent, MLB-caliber natural-grass surface — giving the York Revolution confidence from first pitch onward.
