Hummer Turfgrass Systems has a long history working with Penn State on the design and construction of high use natural grass sports fields.
Our working relationship dates back nearly 40 years and covers everything from new construction, small renovations to in-season emergency repairs. Projects include Beaver Stadium, Medlar Field (Home of Penn State Baseball and State College Spikes) Jeffrey Field, Lasch Football Practice Fields and Intermural Fields.

Beaver Stadium
Hummer has performed numerous projects at Beaver Stadium. The last full field re-sodding took place in 2015 after the field hosted five straight rain-soaked games. Hummer crews replaced the field surface with 1-1/2″ thick cut Kentucky Bluegrass Big Roll Sod. The removal, grading and installation was performed while the team was away for a week and was ready for play when they returned.
In 2019, the sidelines were renovated along with the stadium surrounds. The irrigation was removed and reinstalled and new sand rootzone material was imported and installed. Since the work was performed over the summer, all the sod was delivered to the site in refrigerated trucks and installed immediately.
